Coronavirus India updateThe total number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in India has reached 23,502, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). A total of 541,789 samples from 525,667 individuals have been tested to date, ICMR has said. The death toll across India stands at 720. States with most number of cases at present are Maharashtra (6,430), Gujarat (2,624), Delhi (2,376), Rajasthan (1,964), Madhya Pradesh (1,699), and Tamil Nadu (1,683).

Coronavirus world updateGlobally, there now are 2,726,752 cases of coronavirus. The number of fatalities across the world stands at 191,061, and there have so far been 730,843 recoveries. Nations hit with most cases: US (880,204), Spain (213,024), Italy (189,973), France (158,183) and Germany (153,129). The race to develop an effective coronavirus vaccine gathered pace this week, as clinical trials on humans were approved in Germany and launched in the UK. In Britain, volunteers in a trial at the University of Oxford were on Friday given the first dose of a potential vaccine based on a virus found in chimpanzees.

1.54 bn students out of school over Coronavirus; girls to be worst hit: Unesco
Education of over 154 crore students has been disrupted after their schools were shut down due to the cornovirus epidemic, according to the UN education agency Unesco.

UNESCO said girls will be the worst hit as it will lead to increased drop-out rates and further entrench gender gaps in education.
The global scale and speed of the current educational disruption is unparalleled and disadvantaged children are the worst-hit by the emergency measures, said Unesco Director-General Audrey Azoulay.
US faces biggest job crisis since Depression; Trump may reopen economy soon
US President Donald Trump has favoured safe and phased reopening of the American economy, which has been devastated by the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 50,000 people and infected over 800,000. More than 95 per cent of the countrys 330 million people are under stay-at-home order as a result of the social mitigation measures including social distancing till May 1.
Trump on Thursday indicated that this might be extended beyond May 1, but forcefully advocated the need to gradually open up the economy that is safe.
In the past few weeks, more than 26 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits and the figure is soon likely to cross 40 million. Unemployment in the US is swelling to levels last seen during the Great Depression of the 1930s, with one in six American workers thrown out of a job by the coronavirus, according to a data quoted by the Associated Press.
Both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have projected a negative growth in the US in 2020.
